Imported shortly after his year-long stallion test as a three-year-old in Germany, Widmark trained and competed up through Grand Prix with owner Meg Williams. Upon his retirement from the show ring, he transitioned to the role of schoolmaster - sharing his skills with some very special riders under Meg's training - truly showing his strong work ethic and wonderful temperament.
Widmark was one of nine stallions designated as premium out of 100+ stallions at the 2001 Hanoverian licensing in Verden, Germany. He was third in the 70-Day Test at Adelheidsdorf with an overall score of 129.88 (Jumping: 101.09; Dressage: 136.11) with a score of 9 on both trot and canter, and a Bronze medalist in the three year old stallion class at the Bundeschampionat (German Federal Riding Horse Championships) in 2001, receiving a 9 on his walk.
Under trainer and rider Meg Williams, Widmark established himself as a top competitor in the dressage arena. In 2003, he was awarded USDF Dressage Horse of the Year for first level. He also placed third for the first level/FEI 5 year olds.
Widmark continued up the levels through the Grand Prix level. Upon retirement from competition, he transitioned to the role of schoolmaster for some very lucky riders under Meg's training. Now retired from riding, Meg reports "He was a sheer delight to ride and to train. He walked out of his stall ready and wanting to work every single day."
Widmark's sire, Wolkentanz, was Champion at his stallion licensing in 1993, Vice Champion of his stallion testing and Bundeschampione of three year old stallions in 1994. In 2001, Wolkentanz was ranked 2nd stallion by the German FN for dressage production. To date, he has 9 approved sons.
Widmark is approved by the Verband hannoverscher Warmblutzüchter e. V. and Verband der Züchter des Oldenburger Pferdes e.V. in Europe as well as the American Hanoverian Society, American Rhineland Society, and the Oldenburg Horse Breeder’s Society in North America.
